A literacy education center for adults and families with young children.

About us

Learning Lab is a literacy education center for low-income adults and families with young children. Instruction is individualized, based on students’ needs and goals. Adult students may work on basic skills including math, reading, writing, spelling, and, for many, English language learning. Students may also prepare for GED and citizenship tests. All classes include one-on-one tutoring and the use of educational software. In the family program, while parents work on their literacy skills, their preschool children engage in fun, literacy-based learning activities in their own classroom, so they are better prepared for school. As part of each session, parents work with their children to understand how to support their child’s learning at home and in school.

Seven years ago, Angelica hoped to gain enough English proficiency that she could actively support her son's journey from preschool to kindergarten. Our program exceeded her hopes and built a strong foundation of family learning. With two children now in tow, Angelica returned to the Learning Lab last summer as part of our #FamilyLiteracy program, a perfect fit for her family’s needs, because it welcomes children up to the age of 12! We are actively enrolling for this year's summer adventures, so if you or anyone you know could benefit from our style of summer school, send them our way! From creative class projects to field trips, reading will become a favorite family activity. As seasons change and families grow, Angelica's story is a testament to how Learning Lab remains a steadfast resource empowering parents to take on the role of their child’s first teacher and advocating for their own learning journey. We’re grateful to be a part of this family's ability to thrive. #AdultEducation #EarlyChildhoodLearning

Our story is not just about imparting knowledge, it's about sparking a cycle of positive change that resonates throughout our community and beyond. From adults enhancing their literacy to children discovering the joy of learning, we witness incredible growth daily. But these impacts aren't limited to the classroom; they ripple outward! We see parents who, with new confidence in their abilities, can support their children's education, creating a legacy of learning. We watch as empowered individuals become contributors to our community, planting seeds of knowledge that bloom into economic prosperity. This is the revolution we're fostering—one where ending generational illiteracy is just the beginning. We're building a stronger society, where every person's potential can be realized and celebrated. As we look forward to #IdahoGives, we invite you to join us in this journey of enlightenment, empowerment, and enrichment. Let's continue to nurture the roots of education that hold our society firm.

#IdahoGives — our state's largest day of giving — is just around the corner! From April 29 to May 2, we'll have the incredible opportunity to come together as a community and make a lasting impact on adult and family education. How You Can Get Involved: 💰 Donate Funds: every dollar makes a difference. 🕑 Donate Time: volunteer tutors give us 2 hours weekly in person or online, and we welcome the occasional substitute. 💬 Share Impact: Learning Lab started with just 4 students and now serves more than 400! This is possible because YOU help us spread the word about the work we do and the impact it has on our community. Share why learning lab is important to you with friends, coworkers, family, and neighbors, and invite them to be a part of our efforts. Together we can raise awareness and the funds needed to keep our programs free for students. Thank you for your ongoing dedication and support! 💛
