About us
The Speedy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization named after three-time Olympian, Jeret "Speedy" Peterson of Boise, Idaho and Park City, Utah. Our mission is to prevent suicide, promote conversations to end stigma, and support mental health education. The Speedy Foundation raises funds for, and collaborates with, other advocacy groups to achieve our mission. Advocate | Conversate | Educate A three-time Olympian, Jeret “Speedy” Peterson grew up in Boise, ID, skiing at nearby Bogus Basin. As an athlete, he was successful at the highest level of his sport, winning an Olympic silver medal at Vancouver in 2010 and capturing the hearts of fans worldwide with his trademark quintuple twisting triple flip, “The Hurricane.” As a person, he was always known as someone who looked out for others and cared deeply for his family and friends. In his athletic career he won a U.S. Junior Championship as well as the 2005 season-long FIS World Cup title. In 2007 he set a world record score of 268.70 at Deer Valley Resort, which is not likely to ever be broken. As a young athlete, coaches gave him the nickname Speedy for the cartoon character Speed Racer with his big helmet and his flair for moving around quickly. While a loving, caring outgoing young man, Jeret also battled depression and took his life in July, 2011 at the age of 29.

The Speedy Foundation reposted this
I was able to help launch one more incredible resource last week before my time with DHHS was finished. We launched a new version of the Live On playbook specific for service members, veterans, and their families. The Live On Military Playbook offers concise, engaging lessons featuring videos of veterans and service members sharing their experiences with suicidal thoughts and providing support to their peers. Each lesson take under 5 minutes to complete and is available on Instagram (@LiveOnUtah), with plans to expand to Facebook and YouTube. Please check it out! https://lnkd.in/gf9WA582

Jarvis says the counseling center can be magical. “You said something that piqued my interest. You said you do magic here. What about what you guys do is magic?,” I asked. "You know, I think what the magic is is when people realize they have within them, what they need," Jarvis said. She hopes to bring some of that magic on Saturday. Join us at Children's Home Society of Idaho tonight for Surivor of Loss Day memorial activities. https://lnkd.in/gh5Ea-h4

"Looking at youth, some of those risk factors are disturbances in sleep," Decker said. "When we have young people who are not getting the sleep that they need, especially if they're struggling with another type of crisis. Issues surrounding sexual identity and gender are huge. Eating disorders. Setbacks and perfectionism is something that we're really seeing in our youth. Social media really contributes to this. But it's more than just like the technology piece - it's connection." Connection can be a cure. Join us Tuesday night for Hope Lives: https://lnkd.in/gBeUHMyn
